PW: “I’ve been on top of mountains, but mostly I’ve been inside of Charlie’s, trying to talk to someone.” To me, this phrase nicely sums up life, how there are rare moments of excitement and beauty, but life’s mostly just plain boring. Does that sound about right?

JG: I think that line has to do with space. The wide-open mountains vs. the limited perspective of the inside of a bar. Maybe something to do with the constrained nature of contemporary life—this guy’s cramped life.
